Cloth Collective: Cubitts St. James’s

Cloth Collective: Cubitts St. James’s
For this edition of the Cloth Collective we’re looking at Cubitts St. James’s - a regal experience dominated by splendour. Imagery by Antoni, our Inventory Coordinator, on behalf of St. James’s. We asked Antoni to spend some time in the area photographing its hidden details and why he is choosing to support Royal Association of Deaf people, with 100% of the proceeds going towards their cause.

‘Music is one of my biggest passions and I can't imagine the world without it. It surrounds us, makes us cry, laugh, and fight. To think that a group of people are unable to fully experience it, cut off from that part of our existence, makes me really sad. Even moreso, when you realise that such a huge barrier may affect so many lives and reshape a person’s worldview is really difficult for me to contend with. A quote from the scientist Ernst Mach really encapsulates this for me.’

‘"The plain man is familiar with blindness and deafness and knows from his everyday experience that the look of things is influenced by his senses, but it never occurs to him to regard the whole world as the creation of his senses.”’

Founded in 1841, Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD) is one of the oldest charities working with deaf people in the UK. Celebrating deaf culture and community is an essential part of what RAD does. With deaf people, and in collaboration with others, RAD innovates and delivers services that deaf people want and need.

You can help support Royal Association of Deaf people by visiting Cubitts St James’s and picking up your copy of the cloth, exclusively sold at their location.
