Choosing your frame
Online, you can filter the colour, shape, face width, bridge fit, material and thickness if you wish.
Once you’ve selected a style, you can see if it suits you instantly by using your webcam or phone camera to try it on virtually.
You can also read our guide for more information on finding the right size for you.
Towards the bottom of the screen, you can find the frame’s measurements and see it on a model.
Once the desired colour and size have been selected, you can follow the ‘add to basket’ option. You will then be given the option to select reading or non-prescription lenses, as well as additional lens treatments such as blue filter, polarisation (if sun), or transition. Once you’ve made your selection, you can proceed to the checkout.
Our frames come in a range of sizes from Extra Small to Extra Large.
The overall size of a frame is based on its width, with each around 5mm apart.
The bridge of a frame is Narrow, Medium or Wide, and some frames are available as Low bridge.
Read our guide for more information on finding your size.
It is important that your frames fit you well, both for comfort and so that the lenses are positioned correctly for your vision. Minor adjustments are simple and straightforward. We will carry them out free of charge in any of our stores and you do not need an appointment.
The most common adjustments are made to the temple arms. The length to bend (the distance between the hinge and the point where the temple bends around your ear) can be adjusted to fit, and the angle of the let back (which determines a frame's temple width).
If your spectacles are crooked, the angle can be adjusted to make the frames sit evenly.
If your spectacles are sliding down your nose, the angle of bend and the let back can be adjusted to prevent this.
Our metal frames all have adjustable nose pads which can be altered for different shaped bridges. If our stores are not convenient for you, most opticians will do adjustments for a small fee. Please get in touch for more advice.
We offer additional nose pads on our acetate frames free of charge on request.
We do not recommend performing any other adjustments on your frames yourself.
Spectacles come with three standardised measurements, all of which are written in millimetres. You can find the measurements of each frame on their individual product pages.
These measurements are printed onto the inside of all Cubitts spectacles, along the left arm:
The first number (e.g. 49) refers to lens diameter. This is governed more by the style of the frame than the dimensions of your face.
The second number (e.g. 19) refers to the bridge width, or the gap between the edges of the two lenses.
The third number (e.g. 145) refers to the arm length (or temple length). This is the full length of the arm, from the very tip to the very front.
We design our frames so they can be worn by anyone, whoever you are.
Trying on frames
Choosing spectacles requires careful consideration. A frame that will suit your character, or the character you’d like to be. If you can’t visit one of our Cubitts stores, try on our frames virtually via The Speculator.
The Speculator can be used on desktop, tablet or mobile - whether you’re using iOS or Android devices. Head straight to The Speculator and turn on your camera to get started. You may need to allow camera permissions to use the tool on your device or browser, which can be found in the settings of your device. Or simply browse our spectacles and sunglasses and click the virtual try on button on the product image.
