Frames

All of our frames are handmade by highly skilled spectacle makers, using hand operated tools and specialist optical machinery.

Whether the frames are ready to wear, made-to-measure or fully bespoke, we use the same materials and the same processes, and hold them to the same high standards of quality.

Every one of our frames is made individually. We use human-operated machines for precision stages and do everything else with hand-controlled tools to ensure quality and consistency.

Our frames are $165 as standard. You can choose the frame in the colour of your choosing, subject to availability, and opt to have the frame as a sunglass if you choose.

We offer a range of services. Please see our price list here

Frame rehab service

During your frame rehab we will:

Remove the lenses and clean them

Polish the frame

Tighten the screws and check the hinges

Deep clean your frame in an ultrasonic bath

Re-adjust the frame to ensure the fit is still comfortable when you come in for collection

Warranty and repairs

Warranty

We offer a guarantee against any product fault for two years after the day of purchase. Should your frames need attention outside that period, or if the damage is self-inflicted, get in touch and we'll do our best to advise and help

Repairs

Call us old fashioned, but we take pride in adjusting and fixing spectacles - whether polishing a frame to bring back the glorious lustre, resetting or adjusting it for fit, or re-pinning a hinge. If you're in need of a repair, email us at info@cubitts.com and we'll advise on the options. We offer four levels of repair - complimentary, £25, £50 and £75 - depending on the complexity.

How should I care for my spectacles?

If properly cared for, your Cubitts frames should serve you admirably for many years. While all of our lenses have a scratch-resistant coating, they're not scratch-proof. When not in use, store your Cubitts in the case provided to protect the lens. Putting them loose in a pocket or handbag is a recipe for disaster. To clean your spectacles, use the cloth provided. As tempting as it might be to use your shirt or sleeve, they often carry tiny pieces of grit which can scratch the lens. To remove grease, water and a smidgen of soap usually does the trick.

Do you accept any vouchers?

All of our stores accept Edenred Eyecare vouchers. We do not accept NHS vouchers or any other voucher scheme.

Can I get an invoice for my insurance claim?

Absolutely. Just log in to your account online. From there you can download or print a full VAT invoice for your order.

Bespoke and made-to-measure

What's the difference between bespoke & made-to-measure?

Made-to-measure means that we remake a design from our collection, or an existing frame in your possession, to your exact measurements, in the colour of your choice. Bespoke means that we design a new frame from scratch according to your facial measurements and wants. This includes two consultations with a member of our design team.

How do I book a bespoke appointment?

Please email bespoke@cubitts.com and a member of our design team will be in touch. You do not need an appointment to begin your made-to-measure order, and can visit us in store to begin.

When are the appointments?

Initial bespoke consultations generally take place out-of-hours at our St James's Atelier on Wednesdays (6PM eye examination, 6:40PM bespoke consultation) and at our Coal Drops Yard store in King's Cross on Thursdays (5:20pm eye examination, 6pm bespoke consultation). Please note that we will require at least one in-store consultation to proceed with your order.

Made-to-measure consultations can be done on a drop in basis at any of our stores.

How much does a bespoke pair of spectacles or sunglasses cost?

Full bespoke costs £725. See our full price list here.

Can I have my favourite frame re-made?

Yes, of course. This falls under the made-to-measure category. A remake of a frame costs £425. Please note that for a made-to-measure we will need to retain your chosen frame for 4 working days.

How much does genuine buffalo horn cost?

Genuine buffalo horn costs an additional £200 on top of the prices listed above.

Will I have to pay a deposit?

We will take a deposit of £250 on your first consultation, with the balance due on final collection.

What do I bring to my bespoke appointment?

If you have decided not to have a complimentary eye examination with your bespoke consultation, please remember to bring an up-to-date prescription. Any inspiration or ideas for your future spectacles would be wonderful too. For more information, please refer to our Bespoke page, here.

What happens in the first bespoke consultation?

We measure your facial features and discuss what we believe will work best, but we do believe that this is very much a collaborative process so we would love to hear as much feedback from you as possible. If you have an interest, we would also like to show you the workshop at our HQ. This is where all of our bespoke spectacles and sunglasses are made by hand. We will then go away and design 3 different styles for you to consider.

What happens in the second bespoke consultation?

We go over the designs, with cut-outs of the silhouettes for you to try on.

Where are the bespoke & made-to-measure spectacles made?

Each pair of spectacles is handmade exclusively by one of our master craftsmen, using traditional techniques, in our King's Cross workshop.

Can you make spectacles in metal?

Sadly, our spectacle makers are currently unable to make bespoke metal frames. We do, however, offer a rolled gold made-to-measure frame service, available exclusively at our St James’s Atelier.

What colours do you have available?

With over 185 bespoke acetate colours to choose from, including patterns. We're sure you'll find the colour you're looking for.
